El IEEE Educational Activities Board (EAB), en su reciente reunion en Seattle, USA procedio a premiar a la Seccion Argentina con el '2003 IEEE EAB Section Professional Development Award'.

La citacion es la siguiente:

"For remarkable contributions in continuous education activities with sustained growth in number, variety and geographical coverage, for the benefit of the technical community"

En nombre de la Sección Argentina el Premio fue recibido por el Ing. Francisco Martínez, Director Electo de la Región 9 Latinoamérica para 2004/2005, quien se expresó en los siguientes términos.

" Fellows and Friends of IEEE, Ladies & Gentlemen,

The colleagues of Argentina Section could not come to receive the Award so they requested me to receive it in their name, in my character of Director-Elect of the Region 9, Latin America and 2004 Regional Director. Since our next Regional Meeting will be held in Buenos Aires in mid-March 2004, it will be a good opportunity to give the prize to them.

This is an important award for IEEE Argentina and Region 9 because it recognizes the results of the sustained and successful effort maintained during many years by many people.

Continuity in volunteer work is remarkable by itself, much more in view of the local frame of events, very unfavorable for the development of this type of activities. Hyperinflation, devaluation, unemployment and an economic recession of several years (that just now seems to be surpassed) were everyday problems to coexist with. Nevertheless, the activities grew in quantity and variety and new chapters and student branches, a Subsection and a GOLD group were established and kept operative.

A point to emphasize is the will to spread the activities throughout all the country and not only to the city of Buenos Aires, offering administrative and economic support for the development of activities.
There are also collaboration agreements with other professional Argentinean organizations.

The activity of the Argentina Section is a good example of ' IEEE networking', including the extraordinary resource that IEEE offers: access to the top-level world-wide experts. Thus, with support of the Societies, many distinguished lecturers visit the country to share their knowledge with local professionals and students.

The Argentina Section wants to thank for the support of the Staff in Piscataway that facilitated the daily tasks and also to extend his recognition to the regional authorities. Again, we thank the Educational Activities Board for this Award. We feel very honored by this distinction, much more being the first time that is granted and that we received along with the also awarded Houston Section, whose members we congratulate. Of course, thanks to all those that in one or another way helped us.

Finally, this Award is not a goal but a landmark. A landmark showing us the proper route and the beginning of the next stage in our journey, which we already started with the preparations for the Region 9 Meeting in Buenos Aires, Argentina March 2004. You are all welcome to come to Buenos Aires.
We will be waiting for you!

Personally I want to thank, Lyle, Jim, Karen, Barbara, Rae and all EAB board members for supporting me in these two last years, as RAB liaison to EAB. Through your commitment and support, you provided me with invaluable resources to better serve our members.

Thank you very much for your kind attention."

Reiterando lo dicho por el Ing. Martínez, la Sección Argentina agradece profundamente a todos los que a lo largo de los años han contribuido con su aporte para concretar los logros que fueron motivo de este Premio.
